We are under a winter storm watch, temperature of 33 degrees with freezing rain falling all night.
My tough Texas roses don’t care, they are taking it in stride, soaking it up.
They think it is a nice change from 103 degrees this past summer! So do I, as you can tell, since I am silly enough to stand in the freezing rain taking pictures. 🙂
We had an early freeze last week and the trees responded by giving us some colors other than green and brown. We don’t always see a nice color change here.
The roses didn’t seem to mind a cold night either.
Instead of finishing my UFOs as I promised myself, I frogged an almost completed crochet tablecloth and knitted a Pi tablecloth (pattern is for a shawl by Wendy Johnson of wendyknits.net).
It went pretty quickly but I was in the twilight zone of bind off land with 1,152 stitches on the needles when the time came.
I will be blocking this week (it will have lots of lovely scallops around the edge) and have it on the table before Thanksgiving.
We have had several good rains in the past few weeks. Some things are blooming that I haven’t seen before and everything feels fresh.
Even the poison ivy in the oak trees.
I am taking a break from my swatches to work on some unfinished projects.
I have a pair of stash socks started for Bob the Builder (formerly known as hubby) that I would like to finish before the weather gets cool. He would like that also 🙂
The ripple afghan is a request from my son and my lovely daughter in law. It would have been finished if I had not gotten sidetracked by swatches. I am using giant needles so it won’t take long if I can stay focused..
Then there is a lace stole in mohair. A project for me. It will be my winter zen project. I do love lace knitting, it is my go to when I need to relax and de-stress.
It amazes me how quickly nature takes over when given the tiniest chance.
I took these photos from the dock behind our house. In normal years, we live on a nice little cove. The lake is down almost 6 feet, it is dry under our dock and our cove has become a creek.
The amazing thing is the variety of plant life where there should be nothing but dry ground. Even a drought can be beautiful at times.
This shot is looking towards the lake from the end of the dock. You can see our neighbors dock high and dry on the left edge of the photo.
All sixteen swatches are completed and blocked. My blocking and care of hand knits report is complete and my pattern written.
No more procrastinating, I will answer the questions about the swatches and put my notebook together.
My goal is to mail this off next week. Or maybe the week after.
The temperature here has been in the 80s for a week or so, today it was 74 (cold front!).
The beautiful weather, plus a nice rain, and the roses are back in business.
The Texas Sage is liking the weather too.
I spent a relaxing day on the lake with Hubby. I was hoping for some good bird photos but they were keeping their distance. So I settled for listening to the birds and playing with the damsel flies.
Fall colors in Texas are like a second spring. The temperature is in the 80s and the wildflowers are blooming.
You might be a knitter if you see fleeces in the sky.
