Masters Mitten

I finished my mitten for the masters coursework.

The cuff was not regular ribbing but once I found my rhythm it wasn’t too bad. I do like the angled look.

Swatch Crazy

Being a bit obsessive compulsive about certain things, I am re-swatching.

I was not quite satisfied with the Cascade 220 yarn. I felt as if I were fighting every stitch (through sixteen swatches) as well as having a problem with splitting. In over thirty years of crochet and knitting, splitting yarn has never been a problem for me. I know many people love Cascade yarns, I also know I won’t be using it again.

I found some Knit Picks Wool of the Andes on sale at my LYS and already feel calmer as I begin redoing my swatches. This yarn is happy to help me achieve master knitter status.

Moral of the story: always listen to the yarn! If it is fighting you, try something else.

New Old Desk

I found this old desk on the side of the road and saw beauty where someone else saw garbage. It is solid wood, not fiber board.

With some new paint and hardware, it should make a great desk for the craft room.

Hubby will make shelves to replace the missing drawers, one will slide out for my sewing machine.

I chose a cinnamon brown for the sides and top and a cream for the drawers. I think the colors will look nice.

Blue Jays Gift

Walking along, minding my own business, a flash of blue caught my eye.

A blue jay feather lying in the sand. So bright, it makes me smile.

Swatches Two

As you can guess, I didn’t do any blocking. I decided to swatch some more instead.

I finished the increase and decrease swatches, also the three eyelet swatches. I have no excuse to delay blocking any longer.

I guess I could wait until I write my report on the blocking and care of hand knits. My research and outline are complete and the official instructions do say write the report before blocking..

After all, just because I started knitting with swatch 4 and then proceeded to swatch 15 doesn’t mean I can’t follow instructions.

Hmmm, I think I should block and then report, just to keep in the spirit of the thing.

More Rex, the Cammie Hammie

Rex has built a nest of pine shavings and toilet paper.

He buried his water bottle spout in his nest so that if he wakes up thirsty, he doesn’t have to come out. He can just get his drink and go back to sleep.

He would like to know what I think I’m doing with a camera in his house. He prefers to see me only if I have treats.

First Swatches

The first swatches for my master knitting certification are ready to wash and block.

Looks like my seed stitch can use some work, but I think I will see if blocking will improve it. At least it is only a 4″ square if I decide to re-do it.

I am using Cascade 220, 100% wool, so these should be easy to block. There are 16 swatches total plus a mitten (just one mitten and they provide the pattern).

Traveling Yarn Bowl

The crafty hubby has done it again.

A yarn bowl that travels. It looks like a nice home loving yarn bowl until you attach it to the stand.

The stand fits perfectly into the cup holder in the car and off we go. The bowl is slightly offset so Hubby has room for a drink in his cup holder.

Knitting in the car without worrying about your yarn falling on the floor and rolling under the seat!

Following Instructions

The Knitting Guild Association offers certification as a master knitter. You knit swatches and projects, do research, answer some questions and write a report.

I got it in my head that I can be a master knitter, so I ordered the materials.

My package arrived in the mail today. I couldn’t wait to start my first swatch.

However, being a good future master knitter, I followed the instructions in the welcome letter and read ALL the instructions prior to starting my first swatch.

After all, a good knitter always follows instructions, right? Unless, of course, she is changing the instructions to suit herself..
